Car Insurance Geo (Car Insurance). Ford explorer overwarming?Ford explorer overwarming? I have a 96 ford explorer, I recently noticed the gauge starting to stay in the hot area so I checked the fluids, which were low, and refilled them but it is still staying on that warm side. The gauge doesn't get to the warning point but it stays up there. It's not smoking and I can't smell any of the fluids burning(like with a cracked head). Anyone know what's going on? Those composite radiators tend to come apart at the seams and start leaking, also the lower thermostat housing are prone to crack and leak.. last it could be a blown head gasket.. The water pump may be going out or the thermostat could be stuck. Try changing the thermostat first. How long since you've flushed the cooling system and changed coolant? Its a '96 so if it hasn't been done you're talking about coolant that's 15 years old. Modern anti-freeze with its additives lasts a long time but 15 years would be stretching it. I suggest you either do the job yourself or take it to a shop, have everything drained, flush the entire system, replace the thermostat and have the water pump checked at the same time... that should solve the problem. Also a good time to have the temperature sending unit checked too. You can get a pressure tester from a local parts store and rent it for a few days. And you can check where leaks may be. A normal place that has a leak on Explorers is the Thermostat housing which cracks and will eventually blow out. Check out http://www.explorerforum.com if you want more help. When I was a boringly well behaved child we used to go to the railway line & throw stones at trains - also chucked stones at cars. Parents never told us not to. Now it's a criminal offence in New South Wales. I believe by the laws of physics & applied sci., that the paths of 2 really fast moving objects can never intersect, so a stone can never hit the train esp. the windows or open doors. Geo . 1993 Ford F150 Headlamp RemovalHeadlamp removal on a 1993 Ford F150 takes approximately 30 minutes. The headlamp is designed to allow the headlight bulb to be replaced, without readjusting the headlamp. Headlamp removal will require readjustment. The parking, turn and side marker assembly also consists of the chrome plastic ring encasing the headlamp, parking, turn and side marker lamps. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Phillips screw driver Socket wrench set Step by Step : 1 Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2 Remove the two Phillips screws and two nuts that secure the headlamp door. The Phillips screws are located directly above the headlamp in the engine compartment. The nuts are also located in the engine compartment connected to two studs coming out of the back of the turn signal lamp. 3 Remove the parking, turn and side marker assembly from the vehicle by disconnecting the three bulb socket harnesses. The harnesses connect to the parking, turn and side marker bulbs. 4 Remove the headlight bulb by turning the headlight bulb retainer counterclockwise, pulling the bulb out of the headlamp and pull the bulb out of the socket. Place the headlight bulb in a safe place to avoid damage. 5 Remove the headlamp assembly from the front grill of the vehicle by unsnapping the two headlamp retainers located at the top of the headlamp. 6 Turn the headlamp's horizontal adjuster completely out of the adjuster nut by turning it counterclockwise. This will allow complete removal of the headlamp.
Geo . 1995 Ford Thunderbird Driver Side Door Won't ShutThe Ford Thunderbird was first introduced in 1955 and was manufactured until 2005. It became known as a personal luxury car because it was affordable yet fancier than the average automobile. The 1995 Thunderbird is part of the tenth generation of the car produced from 1989 through 1998. The rubber bushing that the door latch closes around can wear out, which results in the door being unable to close. You have three options to fix this: take it to a dealer, perform a temporary fix with tape or replace the bushing yourself. Difficulty:Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Electrical or duct tape Replacement bushing Utility knife AdhesiveTemporary Fix Step by Step : 1 Open the latch on the door by lifting up on the external door handle, as if you were opening the car, then manually open the door latch. 2 Cut electrical or duct tape into two or three 2-inch strips. Make sure that the tape is thin enough to fit around the latch post, the horizontal metal bar on the door frame that the door latch closes around. 3 Wrap the tape around the post. Make sure that it is very smooth or else the latch will get hung up on the bubbles in the tape. This fix will work for about 50 to 100 closes of the door, depending on the quality of the tape that you used. Permanent Fix Step by Step : 1 Obtain a used Thunderbird bushing from a scrapyard. It does not have to be the same model-year as your car; just measure the latch post on your car to make sure that the bushing will fit onto the post. 2 Cut the bushing along its length with the utility knife so that it opens up like a hot dog bun. Slip this onto the latch post of your vehicle. Make sure that the split is facing outwards so that you can access it. 3 Seal the cut that you made in the bushing with a strong adhesive, such as rubber cement or Gorilla Glue. Once the glue is dry, the bushing will be secured, and the door should close properly. *A quick way to do a preliminary check is to call a shop and ask for its basic prices on regular maintenance jobs like tuning the make and model vehicle you drive, flushing the cooling system, and changing the oil and oil filter. You should also ask what the hourly labor rate is and whether the shop uses OEM parts for your particular vehicle. A telephone interview can give you a good idea of whether a shop's prices are competitive and provide you with a feeling for the shop's "vibes." If the people you talk to are surly and uncommunicative over the phone, chances are that you're going to run into trouble if you have to deal with them in an emergency. Before you need service, follow up a positive phone interview with an unannounced visit to check on the following things: e* Is the place clean and well-organized or filthy and cluttered? Appearance is a good indication of general attitude. Auto repair is a trade that calls for patience and precision. If the shop is sloppy and disorganized, the work may be, too. *«* Does the shop have modern electronic diagnostic and testing equipment? These machines save time by pinpointing trouble areas and checking adjustments and tolerances. Saving time means saving money when it comes to paying those labor charges. Of course, this equipment is only as good as the person using it. Ask if shop technicians attend factory schools and seminars run by manufacturers to learn how to use the more sophisticated analyzers and keep up-to-date on new systems. Modern vehicles require sophisticated, specialized, diagnostic computer equipment, sometimes specific to the make and model of vehicle. Find out whether your vehicle is in that category. If it is, you may have to take it to your local dealer for any work involving computer-controlled functions. Part IV: Dealing with On-the-Road Emergencies Does the shop have a good, up-to-date service manual for your vehicle? I usually buy one for my car's year, make, and model and offer to lend it to the mechanic. After all, service facilities can't stock manuals for every vehicle in the world. Before you hand over your manual, scan the section that deals with the system in question. If you know which parts are involved and have at least a general idea of the work required, you'll be able to communicate intelligently with the service writer and have a basis for questioning any parts or labor charges that seem excessive. " Does the shop have the necessary tools to do your job? Ask whether any part of the job will have to be sent out to a specialist. If this is the case, ask whether they will simply pass those charges on to you, or mark them up to compensate themselves for the time and effort of delivering the vehicle to the specialist and picking it up afterward. If the entire job has to be done by an outside specialist, consider taking the vehicle there directly instead of having your shop serve as a middleman. Avoid conflicts with the service facility by saying that you want another estimate. 984
Geo . Is the alloy fitment on a Vauxhall Corsa C the same as on a Vauxhall Corsa A?
if you mean the offset for the factory mag wheels, then yes they are the same. Volvo XC60. Volvo XC70. Volvo XC90. Yugo Cabrio. Yugo GV. * * What form of payment does the shop accept? Credit cards? Checks? Or only cash? The advantage of using a credit card is that, in the event of a dispute, you can withhold payment until the credit card company investigates the situation. " How does the shop guarantee its repairs? Guarantees usually range from one month to a year. If a shop doesn't think that its work will endure for at least three months, go elsewhere. * Can the shop provide references? Most shops will allow you to call a few of its customers to see whether they were satisfied with service. A vehicle that you've paid thousands of dollars for is certainly worth the time it takes to get these assurances. How does the shop structure the price you pay for repairs? This not only has a great impact on your wallet, but on the quality of the work performed, as well. The following review of the advantages and disadvantages of various pricing systems is based on an article by automotive expert, David (Dre) Solomon, editor/publisher of Nutz & Boltz, an automotive newsletter. 0 By the clock: Any type of automotive repair facility may determine the cost of a job by multiplying a fixed hourly labor rate by the time it took to complete the work. • Advantages: This system is simple and easy to understand and encourages technicians to take the time to do their best work. Geo . Why do the boys in Thomas's story steal a car?
* .Chapter 22: When All Else Fails: Finding and Dealing with a Good Mechanic • Disadvantages: It also makes it difficult to accurately estimate what the job will cost because unexpected technical problems can seriously raise the price. i* Pre-established price lists: Specialists and major chains, such as brake, muffler, and transmission shops, often set fixed prices for specific jobs. Sometimes several basic services are combined into one package. • Advantages: Prices are easy to understand and are usually competitive. You don't pay more if the job goes slowly. • Disadvantages: There are none, unless the only service you need can only be done as part of a package. Geo . What kind of car did baberuth have?
* v* Flat rates: Most shops base their prices on a. Flat Rate Manual, which lists every job that can be done, as well as the amount of time it should take to accomplish the job on a specific vehicle. • Advantages: Estimates are accurate because they aren't affected if a job takes longer than normal. • Disadvantages: You may be charged for the amount of time listed in the manual, no matter how little time the work actually took. Few shops will keep a technician who can't "beat the book" by a substantial amount of time, which means that mechanics may skimp and cut corners to complete repairs as quickly as possible. u* Variable flat rates: Some dealerships price jobs not only by the Flat Rate Manual, but also by the level of skill necessary to do the work properly. • Geo . How many people have cars in the philipines?
* Advantages: Maintenance jobs are usually priced at a lower rate than more sophisticated repairs. You aren't penalized if the job takes longer than expected. • Disadvantages: You may have to pay for expensive repairs when the problem could have been corrected in a quicker and cheaper fashion. For instance, some automatic transmission problems are caused by insufficient transmission fluid, but some shops will rebuild or replace the entire transmission instead of simply adding enough fluid to bring the level up to the "Full" line on the dipstick. V* Flat rates and parts commissions: At many chains or department stores, the mechanic shares in the profits on the sale of parts. • Advantages: You aren't penalized if the job takes longer than expected.
